5 Tips for Choosing Your Brand Photographer

So you need to find a Brand Photographer...?

Choosing a Brand Photographer is as important as choosing your wedding photographer. You spend a lot of time with them, you want to make sure you like them and get along with them and of course you want to make sure they know what they’re doing!

In my last blog, we talked about the specific category of Brand Photography and what’s different and special about it. So you already know there’s a lot more involved than taking pretty pictures.

With that much on the line, here’s my top 5 tips for choosing a brand photographer for your business.

Tip 1: Find someone you work well with.

You and your Brand Photographer are going to be spending quite a bit of time together. Their #1 goal should be getting to know you and your business as much as possible so that the entire shoot is planned around not only your needs and style but also around attracting your ideal clients. Find someone you're comfortable around and would enjoy working with.

Tip 2: Make sure you like their portfolio and style.

Every Brand Photographer has a different style not only in editing but also in how they shoot. Some of them might suit your brand vibe and some might not. While some Brand Photographers can work with a few different styles, you still want to make sure you’re having a close look at their portfolio on their website and socials before deciding which one is best for you.

Tip 3: Do they specialize in Brand Photography?

There are lots of different niche’s and categories of photography and while a lot of photographers offer a variety of services, Brand Photography needs a bit of a different approach to categories like engagement photos or family sessions. The pictures still look pretty of course, but there’s a purpose and a strategy behind the pictures to help you connect with your ideal clients and grow your business. A photographer who specializes in Brand Photography has more experience in achieving that.

Tip Four: Make sure they are organized and have good planning skills.

With Brand Photography you are looking to use your photos for a specific purpose whether that’s launching a new website or marketing your business on Instagram. There’s usually a list of must-have shots you require and a list of props or products you want to include. This is where organization and planning skills come into play; a good Brand Photographer will have some sort of planning session ahead of time and have an outline of what’s expected for the shoot so that nothing gets missed.

Tip Five: Do they have an eye towards marketing strategy?

Connecting with your ideal client using the images is the #1 goal. Your Brand Photographer should be in tune with who you’re trying to market to and then also how to use images to market to them. They should have experience in taking all the awesome details of your business and showing those in a way that helps you to grow it.

Getting Brand Photography is an investment. That’s why I highly recommend following these 5 tips and doing your research before picking your next Brand Photographer.
