Disneyland was my worst nightmare
- and why it’s proof you need to show your face online
Spill The Tea - Blog Version
Not every kid dreams of Disney World. In fact, I had nightmares about it.
I’m not sure how, when or why but I had a very strong fear of people in costumes when I was younger (still kinda do tbh).
Mostly clowns and costumes that involved the big pretend heads. I feel like it was a trust thing, like if I saw no signs of your real face you couldn’t be trusted.
And the larger than life acting and pretending freaked me the heck out.
So, when my family finally went to Disney World, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. I wanted no parades, no character meet-and-greets, and definitely no roller coasters (I hated those too).
But there I was, front and center at a parade, wearing a hat that said, “Don’t even Tink about it!” (Get it? Tinkerbell?)
And then it happened.
A guy dressed as Dopey from Snow White spotted my hat, threw his head back in laughter, and before I knew it, lifted my hat and kissed me on the nose!
I died. I retreated from the parade and burned the hat. (Okay, not really, but it was tempting.)
But I’m sure you know by now, this story isn’t just about my childhood fears—there’s a business lesson here. There always is!
Number One: Show your face (your real face please). Just like I needed to see faces to feel secure, your clients need to see the real you to trust your business.
Number Two: Be yourself. Overacting and pretending won’t help you build genuine connections with your clients. Authenticity is key.
Number Three: Don’t be that person who slides into DMs uninvited the same way Dopey slid under my hat. Instead, focus on building relationships. A strong community leads to natural sales, no tricks required.
And that my friend, is my trip down Disney World memory lane. Time to block it from my memory again.
